Cats Safe at Home is a collaborative effort to humanely reduce outdoor cats in the Portland metro region, and engage our community with ideas and information that value cats and wildlife.
The Catio Tour, held annually in September, is designed to educate our community about how outdoor cat enclosures keep cats and wildlife safer. We hope to inspire people to build one for their cats. Catios offer cats healthy exercise time as well as safety from outdoor hazards like cars, predators and poisons.
Cat overpopulation in the Portland metro area can be reduced, and we can do it with your help! The first thing all cat owners and caregivers can do is spay/neuter their cats. Next, find alternatives to letting your cat roam freely unsupervised. It is safer for your cat and native wildlife.
Why it Matters
Every cat deserves a safe home where they are loved, cared for, and kept free from hazards, yet tens of thousands of stray and feral cats roam our urban landscape, vulnerable to a variety of risks. They are also preying on our native habitat. We seek to address the challenges of cat overpopulation in a humane and environmentally responsible manner.
