Portland’s Catio Tour Offers a Safer Outdoor Solution for Cats and Wildlife
Wildly popular cat event shows off outdoor fab to frugal catio enclosures
PORTLAND, ORE — The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon and the Bird Alliance of Oregon will host the 14th Annual Catio Tour on September 12, 2026. The self-guided tour invites people to peek into some of Portland’s most creative outdoor cat spaces, from simple enclosures to standout backyard showpieces. At each stop, guests can meet homeowners, compare materials and access points, and gather practical ideas for creating safe outdoor spaces for cats.
This year features a lineup of playful catios in SE Portland, including the spot-on “Pawthorne Bridge”.
Catios keep birds safe from cats, and cats safe from coyotes. They also allow cats to experience fresh air, sunshine, and outdoor enrichment while preventing the risks of roaming and being hit by cars.
The Catio Tour began in 2013 to educate and inspire cat owners to build a catio for safe outdoor time for their pets. The annual event now gives community members a firsthand look at practical catio designs that can fit a range of homes, budgets, and spaces.
Media can preview catios in August and/or use promo photos available upon request.
